The Department of History startedits journey with Raniganj Girls college from 9^th November 1980 andnow the Department is an inseparable part of the history of Raniganj Girls College. The  Department shares all odds and difficulties of a newly established college, sharesall moments of glory and opportunities. In 1980 the department offers General degree cours and course of classXI and XII. The course continued up to 2002 with a huge number of girls students .Because it opens a scope for girls of first generation learners from conservativefamilies, economically and socially backward families and minority communities.In Academic session, 1996-97 it offers B.A. Honours in History (three years). From2015 we are under Kazi Nazrul University, Asansol and from 2016 CBCS (choicebased credit system) introduced with completely new syllabus and curriculum forB.A Honours and Program in History . Apart from general study studentsparticipated in other academic activities, like class-seminar,inter-departmental seminar, seminars and workshops, exhibitions etc. They alsotake part in cultural competitions, sports, NSS, NCC . Department of History hasa seminar library with more than five hundred books. The Students of HistoryDepartment have their own Alumni, �Moitreyee"� and a magazine,�"Prabahini" Theyalso regularly published their Wall-Magazine,"CLEO".  Now it is a time to say that  Alumnus of this department regularly serve as Faculty member. Department of History with its faculties, students and alumnustrying to fulfill the vision of Raniganj Girls College to achieve theexcellence in higher education and empowerment of women in the society.
