Oneof William Shakespeare’s characters said, “Ignorance is the curse of God;Knowledge is the wing wherewith we fly to heaven.” Following the cue, the Department of English started its journey with the establishment of RaniganjGirls’ College on 9^thNovember 1980 with the saying “Knowledge is Power” and the objective ofempowering women with knowledge. Under the Choice Based Credit Systemcurricula with a six-semester pattern of study of Kazi Nazrul University, thedepartment offers Honours and Programme courses at the undergraduate level.Academics and learner-centric activities like publication of Wall Magazine,Educational Tours, screening films, participation of students in exhibitions,build up the spirit of the department. The rich collection of books in the seminarlibrary of the department as well as the Central library of the college is abig asset for the knowledge seekers. In pursuit of education, we have been ableto inspire and lead the students to a path of independent learning andcomprehensive development.
