The Department of Philosophy of Raniganj Girls College started its journey from 1980. The Department offers General degree Course from the Academic Session 1980-1981 and offers B.A. Honours in Philosophy from the Academic session 1985-1986. In the thirty-nine years of its journey, the department has remained true to the cause of womens  empowerment through education.

Under the Choice Based Credit System syllabus of Kazi Nazrul University, the department offers and imparts a six-semester pattern of study in Honours and Program courses at the undergraduate level. The Department also arranges seminars and invited lectures by eminent teachers.

The students of the department participate in co-curricular activities like publication of the Departmental Wall Magazine, exhibitions, educational tours and celebration of the World Philosophy Day. The teachers appreciate the latent potential in the student and encourage them to participate in different extension activities like NSS, sports, creative writing, acting, recitation, singing, dancing, skilled craftsmanship etc.

The department in its modest way strives to provide an environment conducive to the growth of the personality of the students including the learners philosophy belonging to the socially backward and economically weak families.
