The Department of Zoology was established in 1990-91. The journey that initiated with a few studentsstarted offering an Honours Course at the undergraduate level from 2000. Thisled to the steady development of the department. The joining of new facultywith different specializations in the recent past has helped to strengthen thehuman resource of the department.

Currently, the department provides undergraduatecourses for Honours and Program following CBCS system under Kazi NazrulUniversity.The courses impart a detailed understanding of modern aspects ofZoology like Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology,Immunology, Developmental Biology etc. The curricula also include courses likeAquarium Fish keeping, Apiculture, Sericulture and so on which have thepotential to provide employment opportunities to students upon graduation. Thedepartment also conducts educational tours, an important component of thesyllabi and help to keep the students motivated. The department also arrangesevents like seminars, field study, publication of the wall magazine and alumnimeet.     

Many promising students havegraduated from the department and are currently pursuing higher studies or employedin various capacities.
