Respecting the demands for undergraduate courses inSantali and the sentiments of the ethnic Santal population residing in theRaniganj coal fields, Raniganj Girls’ College took the unique step to establishthe Department of Santali in the academic year 2016-2017. The college todaytakes pride in stating that it is not only the first but the sole HigherEducation Institution affiliated to the Kazi Nazrul University that offersundergraduate courses in Santali. In the maiden year of its journey, thedepartment offered Bachelor of Arts (BA) Programme in Santali. Later, thedepartment started offering BA Honours in Santali from the academic year2017-18 under the CBCS pattern of study. 

In conformity to the mission and vision of thecollege, the teachers of the department not only strive to impart educationefficiently according to the undergraduate curricula as prescribed by KaziNazrul University but also encourage the students of the department toparticipate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities like participationin national level webinars, annual cultural programme, departmental exhibition,publication of the departmental wall magazine, etc.

The department endeavors to provide for all rounddevelopment of the learners’ personality such that it will enable them topursue higher education and make them employable in the future.
