Department provides undergraduate studies with specialization in the subject of Microbiology. The department currently runs three years (six semesters) Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology (Honours) under the Choice Based Credit System (C.B.C.S.) Under KNU. Presently the department consists of two class rooms for theory sessions and laboratory for conducting practical sessions.

Course covers various aspects of Microbiology including basic microbiology, cell biology, microbial diversity, analytical techniques, molecular biology, basic bioinformatics, immunology & medical microbiology, industrial microbiology,metabolism and microbial physiology and environmental & applied microbiology.

Department plays an integral role in overall development of the students in an indispensable paramedic field.

The department with its dedicated faculties aims to develop a strong base of Microbiological knowledge. The department aims to provide higher and quality education to the students.

The department provides basic instruments for practical works. Department fosters global competencies among students through sending them in industrial training, arranging industrial tour, encouraging students to participate in national and international scientific meets. The department also brings out wall magazine.

Collaborative research in the subject as well as Inter disciplinary research activities like those on Environmental Science are also sincerely taken care of. Apart from teaching and research, academic activities of the department include organizing seminars,workshops, conferences, student’s presentation seminars and activeparticipation in exhibitions and science fairs.
