Established in 1990, the Department of Physics, Raniganj Girls College intimately shares the vision and mission of the institution towards achieving excellence in teaching as well as research. Starting with the General Degree Course in the Academic Session 1990-1991 and subsequently introducingthe Honours course in Physics from the academic session 2001-2002, the department has been rendering its services with its dedicated teachers equipped with audio-visual facilities and state-of-the-art practical laboratories. The department currently runs three years (six semesters) Bachelor of Science degree in Physics (Honours and Program) under the Choice Based Credit System (C.B.C.S.).Collaborative research in the subject as well as Inter disciplinary research activities like those on Environmental Science are also sincerely taken care of. Apart from teaching and research, academic activities of the department include organizing seminars, workshops, conferences, students presentation seminars and active participation in exhibitions and science fairs. Enthusiastic addition there is educational tours to different national research and educational institutes and industrial concerns. The department has its own seminar library (in addition to the general one) equipped with about 200 books for wide use of the students. . The library is also furnished with a sizeable number of research educational magazines (like Physics Today, CERN Courier etc.). Artistic presentation of departmental wall magazine, taking part in debate and quiz competition, cultural functions, sports and games are among a lot of colorful activities the students of the department can enjoy and share their shoulders with others.
