Sanskrit honours course has been introduced inRaniganj Girls' College in the year 2007. However Sanskrit as a subject wasintroduced way back in the year 1980, when it was taught as part of the GeneralCourse and one of the subjects in higher secondary. SubhraBagchi was thefounder HOD on that time.Then 1987 Dr MitaliBasu joined Ranganj Girls'College.Sheis working as senior most teacher of the department.

Now the Department of Sanskrit has been affiliatedto Kazi Nazrul University from 2015. From the beginning the students of thedepartment of Sanskrit has achieved excellent ranks in the University and thestudents have been placed in various universities, colleges and schools of WestBengal.

In the beginning of the session students areprovided with academic calendar. The interactive sessions are organised betweenteachers and students and also between parents and teachers. The studentsprepare departmental wall magazine. The Teachers encourage the students toparticipate in different seminars and cultural competitions. The teachers alsoarranged personalised guidance for weaker students. There is a well-stocked library in our department.

The teachers of the Sanskrit Department are alwayscareful about the progress of their students. Department also organised variousnational and state level seminars to enrich the knowledge domain as well asmaintain responsibilities towards society.
